Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swedish retail company, Clas Ohlson, mainly selling household, media and construction products, has announced plans to cut between 150 and 200 jobs located at the company’s head office and distribution centre in the city of Insjön. According to the company, the job cuts are set out in order to make the organisation more efficient and flexible to meet the demands coming from digitalisation and automation. Negotiations with the union are ongoing and it is yet to be decided if the cuts will be implemented by outsourcing, direct dismissals, relocation or a retirement scheme.
