Description

German Südzucker, the leading sugar processor, claims to be affected by the European sugar policy and announced plant closures in three countries: 2 plants in France, 2 plants in Germany and 1 plant in Poland. The group will cut 150 positions in Germany. In France, its subsidiary Saint-Louis Sucre has announced the closure of two of its four sugar factories in France from 2020, as well as a major reorganisation with 130 job cuts. The number of job cuts in Poland is not known. This reorganisation is linked to the liberalisation of the European market since October 2017 with the abolition of quotas, global overproduction and an unprecedented fall in prices on the world and European markets.

A previous EU wide restructuring was announced in 2007, with 274 job cuts in France, Germany and Poland.
