Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Home appliance retailer Brighthouse has announced plans to close 30 of its shops which will result in the loss of 350 jobs. The store which operates on a rent-to-own model is making the changes ahead of new regulatory arrangements, due in April 2019, which will cap the total amount payable under these terms. Brighthouse has informed staff of the plans, and intends to close stores within two months, meaning that closures should take effect before the legislation changes. The locations of the affected stores have been reported.
