Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nestlé Purina, the manufacturer of pet food, has announced 231 job cuts in France over the next three years, including 49 at the Montfort-sur-Risle (Eure) site. The plants at Veauche (Loire), Aubigny (Calvados), Quimperlé (Finistère) and Marconnelle (Pas-de-Calais) are also affected. The announcement was made at a central works council meeting held on 12 February, to present the details of the transformation project. The company wants to reduce production costs, which will involve job cuts, renegotiating working time agreements and reducing the operating costs of facilities such as materials, water and energy.
