European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The management of Abb Italia announced to 123 redundancies in its plant in Vittuone.
The decision was taken at central level and is connected to a restructuring plan which will be undertaken in order to face a market contraction and which entails the disposal of some production lines, which will be moved into other plants in Finland and in India.
The announcement came despite earlier denials from the company in response to the questions from the unions on the future of the plant.
The trade unions defined the decision as wrong and unacceptable, and called for a strike on 1 February 2019 to push for negotiations.
ABB Italia has 22 sites in Italy, employing over 5,500 employees. The group is active in over 100 coountries and has a total workforce of around 147,000 employees.
