Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German plastic manufacturer Rehau has announced plans to discontinue the unprofitable wood-polymer composite production in Austria making 64 employees redundant. The restructuring will affect the production site in Neulengbach, where 43 people will be dismissed, as well as the headquarters in Guntramsdorf, where 21 positions in product management, sales and administration will be cut. The company has informed the public employment service and negotiations on a social plan are underway. In the future, the company will invest in the production of micro-cable tubes and aims to employ 100 workers and 20 apprentices by 2021 at the plant in Neulengbach.
