Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German manufacturer of lighting equipment Osram has announced plans to cut 300 out of the 2,800 positions at its subsidiary Opto Semiconductor in Regensburg. The company cited weak demand from the automobile industry, the decrease in sales by smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung and the effects of the trade conflict between USA and China as the main causes. There is no information on the timeframe for the restructuring.
The group previously restructured in 2018, when 600 jobs were cut.
