Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Abet Laminati, the largest company in the city of Bra employing about 600 employees, announced to the trade unions that, following the decision on a restructuring and reorganisation plan, the company will open a collective redundancy procedure for 112 employees.
According to the company, the shipping departments, raw materials warehouses, and stock warehouses will be outsourced and the branches of Rome and Reggio Emilia will be closed. Redundancies will also affect other departments.
Following the company's announcement, employee representatives proclaimed an immediate stop of all overtime work in sign of protest.
