Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Challans slaughterhouse (Covia group), which employs 140 people, was placed in liquidation by the Commercial Court of Poitiers for lack of a buyer. The court ordered the liquidation of the four Covia companies: Sovia (transport), Covia meat sectors (processing), SEAC (slaughter) and Scop Cooperative Meat (livestock farmers), resulting in the loss of 140 jobs, said Serge Rondeau, Mayor of Challans. Hundreds of nearby farmers will also be affected by the closure.
The trade union CFDT commented that the company had run up into quite high debt and that the plant would have needed to be renewed earlier to adapt to changed regulations.
