Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Peal, provider company of the Hullera Vasco Leonesa firm (coal extraction and sale firm), has announced a collective dismissal plan for its entire workforce, a total of 117 workers from the Cielo Abierto production unit in Santa Lucia de Gordon (León). The company has argued that the cause of this layoff is the decrease of production due to the lack of purchase of national coal by the electricity companies, and in particular, of the La Robla thermal power plant. The works council has requested to meet with the Minister of Employment and the Minister of Ecological Transition. So far, they have the commitment of the Secretary of State for Energy to examine their situation.
