Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Adelie Foods has announced plans to close its factory in Kilmarnock, which will result in the loss of 180 jobs. The company produces sandwiches, salads and other snacks, and has invested heavily in its manufacturing sites over the last two years. The company believes that it will be able to meet its orders using its two sites in Greater London, in Wembley and Southall. There may be a possibility that some workers will be moved from Kilmarnock to other parts of the group. Consultation with affected staff is due to begin imminently, though there is no report of when the factory is expected to close.
In July 2017, Adelie Foods announced the closure of its 180-employee Middlesbrough factory in the north east of England.
