Description

The Czech government has announced plans to eliminate about 860 positions at Ministries from January 2019; roughly one third of these positions are filled. The biggest cuts are expected in the Ministries of Education, Justice, Agriculture and Defence.

Within the framework of the ongoing systematisation of jobs, the government has agreed on the biggest reduction in public administration positions since the Civil Service Act was adopted in 2014. The Civil Service Act was introduced to stabilise the public administration and open it up to experts, while preventing political purges at ministries following general elections.

As of December 2018, the Czech government employs about 150,000 state officials.
