Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German textile manufacturer Ahlers has announced plans to cut 100 jobs in Germany. The company aims at improving mid-term results by reducing complexity and focussing on master brands. The bundle of restructuring measures will start on 1 January 2019 and entail the cutting of 130 jobs out of a total of 2,150 worldwide. The job cuts will predominately affect the two German locations Düsseldorf and Herford, both located in North-Rhine Westfalia, which currently employ 619 workers. Management intends to negotiate a social plan with the works council.
