Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Engineering company Camlin, based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has announced plans to create 298 new jobs. The jobs are being supported by a 5 million GBP (€5.6 million) investment from Invest NI, and it is anticipated that the jobs will add around 9.5 million GBP (€10.7 million) annually in salaries to the local economy. The business will centre its research, design and manufacturing divisions within Northern Ireland for its products, which it supplies to the electricity and rail sectors. There is no information as to when all the jobs will be filled, though it has been reported that 98 of the positions have already been offered.
