Description
The editorial group Il Sole 24 Ore announced the start of a collective dismissals procedure for 103 out of 545 of its graphic and printing service workers.
According to the company, the decision was due to the necessity of a strong reduction of labour costs caused by the deep crisis of the newspapers publishing sector determined not only by the general unfavorable economic situation, but also by radical changes occurred in the world of information.
Trade unions argued that the annoucement came as no surprise, since workers have endured a reduction of working hours for six years. They also argued that the company continues to save on labour costs, making the workers pay for mistakes and mishandlings made at the top, not at the bottom of the company.
