Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alewijnse is a familiy company founded 125 years ago focused on electrical engineering and industrial automation, especially in the marine sector. Last year, Alewijnse sold certain divisions of the company as part of a restructuring in order to try and make the company profitable again. The company is however still dealing with financial issues, especially in its martime activities division. As a consequence of the financial losses, it was announced last month that the familiy business would be acquired by investors. Due to the takeover at least 100 employees of the 950 employees in its various Dutch units will be let go.
