Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Furniture manufacturer Quality Furniture Company has announced it will stop trading on 12 October 2018 and 161 staff members will be made redundant. The company, based in Grantham, Lincolnshire, entered administration in August 2018 and at that stage the future of the business was uncertain. Despite efforts to sell the business, the administrators have announced that no viable offer could be secured and that the company will cease trading. At the time of entering administration there were 271 employees, though by the time of the announcement of closure, that number had reduced to 161.
