Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The shoe retailer Chaussexpo has announced a plan to close 35 of its 223 stores by the end of 2018, and to cut 124 jobs. 94 job cuts will result of the closing stores and the remaining job cuts will affect the company headquarters at Lesquin, near Lille (Nord). Chaussexpo was placed in receivership in February 2018. The company had already closed 29 stores in 2017. Its recovery plan includes reducing costs, increasing its number of collections from two to four, updating the e-commerce site and creating 11 jobs in cross channel and social media marketing. The company employs 744 people in its retail activities and 64 in its logistic activities.
