Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
National telecoms company, Eir, plans to take on 750 staff in an initiative to bring its customer service operations back under direct control of the company. The roles with Eir are largely replacing those which will be reduced from the outsourcing firm HCL Technologies, which was contracted to operate Eir's customer services.
Nearly half of the announced jobs will be based at Eir's new centre in Sligo, while the other positions will be based at Limerick and Cork. The ERM previously reported on restructuring at Eir in Ireland earlier in 2018.
