Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Technology company Cubic Transportation Systems has announced plans to create over 100 jobs at its offices in North Yorkshire. As of October 2018, 150 people work at the site in Thornaby, and the new roles will take the headcount to 260. It is being reported that the roles on offer include systems automation engineers, service desk technicians and software engineers. The company provides the technology for London's Oystercard and has just won a contract for GPB 27 million (€30.7 million) to provide technology for the transport network in Sydney. The timeframe for filling the new positions is not known, though it is understood that the application process is open.
