Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Picnic, an online supermarket delivery service, is looking for 2,000 new employees in order to serve its 50,000 potential customers, who are on the company’s waiting list. The positions include drivers for the electric carts, which are used for delivering the groceries, software developers and workers in the distribution centres. The recruitment process is under way, but there is no information available on when it will be completed. Picnic also operates in Germany and according to a spokesperson for the company, it is expected to serve 70 locations by the end of 2018.
Previous restructurings took place in 2017 (300 jobs created in Diemen and 120 jobs created in various cities in the Netherlands).
