Vodafone's chief executive has announced that the company would cut 1,700 jobs across shared service centres in Egypt, India and Romania this financial year. Job reductions represents about 8% of the workforce in that side of the business (22,000 positions). The cuts are part of a cost saving plan of about €8 billion. The chief executive stresses that more back-office functions are taken over by 'robots'. Vodafone employs about 105,000 employees worldwide.
