European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Department store John Lewis has announced plans to restructure acrosss its branches which will result in the loss or 270 jobs and the creation of 70 new jobs. The cuts are understood to affect back office roles such as IT, finance and store security in the company's 50 branches. There is no information as yet, on when the restructure is due to take effect.
A spokesperson for the company said that this would result in a "more efficient way of working" and added that they aimed to find roles for the affected employees where possible. The timing of the announcement of the net reduction in jobs is seen as unfortunate as it coincides with a rebranding of the store, which seeks to emphasise its mutual ownership structure.
