Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of SCM Fonderie, part of the SCM group, a manufacturer of automatic machinery for wood, glass and metal processing, announced the closure of its plant in Rimini and 111 job losses.
The decision was attributed to the difficult economic situation of the fundry and the significan economic losses it registered over the last years.
Negotiations with the trade unions started immediately. The company announced its willingness to limit redundancies to 100, which will take place on a voluntary basis in return for economic incentives, and to transfer the remaining employees to the company's other fundery in Verucchio.
