Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
British global retailer Tesco has announced that it will close 13 stores across Poland and cut up to 2,200 jobs through a collective dismissal programme. The programme will affect 13 unprofitable stores in Bytom, Chorzów, Gliwice, Hrubieszów, Jelenia Góra, Kalisz, Knurów, Piaseczno, Poznań, Sieradz, Strzelin, Września and Żory.
Tesco has been operating in Poland since 1992 and currently has about 400 stores in the country. In 2018, the company announced two restructuring programmes (in February and June) resulting in a closure of 21 stores and the reduction of 840 jobs.
