Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Norwegian oil service company Aker Solutions is hiring 100 new employees in Stavanger. The expansion is due to positive outlooks in the Norwegian oil sector. The new jobs are within 15 different disciplines; among these are engineering and project support.
After having experienced a downturn in 2015 and 2016, the company is now experiencing an upturn. This is not the first round of hiring for the company this year. New jobs were also announced in January 2018. The company announces that about 80% of those hired in this round have worked in the company before, but lost their jobs during the oil crisis in previous years. It is positive for the company that old staff is being rehired, according to two Heads of departments.
Aker Solutions is a global provider of products and services to the oil and gas industry and operates in 20 countries worldwide.
