Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Klaipedos smelte, a cargo handling company in the port of Klaipeda, intends to create at least 150 new jobs in Klaipeda by the end of 2019. Currently the company employs 280 employees. Klaipedos smelte is managed by the international shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company which has recently announced its decision to start transshipment in Klaipeda. After such a decision, Klaipedos smelte will become a global container handling port. According to the management, the number of employees will grow by 70-80 in 2018, and by the end of 2019, the total number of employees in Klaipedos smelte should reach 430.
