Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 11 January 2018, local transport company GTT (Gruppo Trasporto Torinese), partly owned by the Piedmont region and the Municipality of Turin, announced its new industrial plan, which is excpected to save the company from bankruptcy. The plan envisages a significant worforce reduction in a four-year period through the retirement of 500 employees and 260 dismissals. The decision was confirmed by the company on 2 May 2018. In the meantime the trade unions stated that the plan is 'inadmissible' and organised a strike on 8 May to protest against the decision.
