Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food company Colussi announced 117 redundancies at its plant in Fossano (near Cuneo). The dismissals are attributed to the company's decision to move the production of rusks to Petrignano (Perugia). This is part of a broader restructuring plan according to which each Italian plants should specialise in the production of a specific good, avoiding multi-product plants.
The plant in Fossano employs 180 workers. Those not affected by the restructuring will continue being employed in the production of high quality pasta.
The company has started discussions with workers' representatives in order to find an agreed solution. Trade unions opposed the company's decision and announced anemployee assembly for 7 May and a strike for the following day.
