Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Renfe, the Spanish railway state-owned company which operates freight and passenger trains, will hire 600 new workers, of which 410 employees (68%) will be machinists. In particular, the railway company will select 410 train drivers, of whom 395 will be national train drivers and another fifteen to carry out cross-border traffic with France. Renfe will also hire 80 commercial and 110 maintenance operators. Also, 36 places are related to electrical and electronic work, another 51 with works of adjuster or specialist assembler in rolling stock, 10 more will be experts in machines and tools, another 6 in boilermaking, sheet metal and welding, and the remaining 7 in supplies. This is the sixth job offer that the railway company has launched since 2015, when it hired personnel again after the crisis. The last one, which took place in 2017, is the largest in the history of the company so far, adding 925 workers.
