Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French multinational car manufacturer Renault is cutting out the night shift in their plants in Valladolid and Palencia (Castilla y León) due to economic and strategic causes, adapting the production to global market needs. This will mean the non-renewal of 1,400 temporary workers. Trade unions (CCOO nad UGT) have demanded thorough information about production and economic causes and also an exhaustive control of extra hours after the supression of the night shift to measure if non affected workers have to cover these hours. This job cut will also impact on employment figures of ancillary companies in the region.
