Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Supermarket chain Marks and Spencer has announced that it is to close one of its distribution centres which will result in the loss of 450 jobs. The site at Hardwick Grange near Warrington will close in September 2018 with the loss of around 450 jobs. The decision to close the operation in Cheshire is part of a five year plan to restructure the business. A new distribution centreĀ is planned for Hertfordshire which will be operated by logistics company DHL and the Marks and Spencer site in Bradford is in the process of being automated. Therefore, the Warrington site is no longer needed according to the company.
