Description
American transport and logistics company FedEx announced the dismissal of 315 employees, most of them couriers, due to the closure of 24 of its 34 Italian transport platforms. According to the company's restructuring plan, administrative workers will be concentrated in four centres while transport activities will be almost entirely outsourced to TNT, which has been part of the group since 2016.
According to the trade unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti, the dismissals are unjustified as the company is not experiencing any reduction of its production volumes. A first strike of all Italian FedEx employees was called for 17 May.
In Italy FedEx currently employs 1,143 workers.
