Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Logistics Company Gist has confirmed that the site at Eccleshall has closed following a consultation process with affected employees. The site employed 150 full time staff and around 60 part time and agency staff. A spokesperson for the local council commented that a taskforce had been set up through the consultation period which has resulted in some redeployment within the Gist group and has also helped workers find jobs within other logistics companies. The exact number of workers who have been unable to secure aternative employment is however unclear. The site closed on 6 April 2018 at the end of the consultation process.
