Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Laundry Company Berendsen has announced that it is to close its site in Mossley, Greater Manchester. The closure will result in the loss of 250 jobs, 100 of which are permanent positions and 150 of which are agency jobs. Workers had been led to believe that jobs were secure following the signing of a contract with Manchester United Football Club. However, it is being reported that the site will now close and will do so after the 30 days statutory consultation period. The company has said that it will try to redeploy affected workers where possible.
