Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Travel agency Thomas Cook has announced plans to close 27 shops and remove the role of cluster manager, resulting in the loss of 210 jobs. These latest plans also include the creation of 360 new dedicated store manager roles after a successful pilot scheme in 2017. The latest store closures are seen as continued restructuring following the take-over of the co-op travel brand and the move towards a single brand by November 2018. There is no information available on the timescales for either the job creation or of the redundancies.
The travel agency previously announced store closures in 2017 with the loss of 400 jobs.
