Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Deliveroo, a food delivery company, has announced plans to create 250 new jobs. The roles are in various parts of the company's software development and data security divisions and will be based in London. The jobs are expected to be filled by the end of 2018. The company has faced some criticism and legal challenge for the way in which it engages those who actually do the deliveries over whether these people are workers or self-employed contractors. These new jobs will form part of the firm's core workforce and have been made available due to the increases in order loads which the company has experienced. The company expansion follows a first wave of 300 tech jobs created in its London site last year.
