On 16 February 2018, the German vehicle manufacturer Daimler announced it aims to reduce its fixed costs by €400 million by the end of 2018 through an austerity programme called 'Stream', which will affect approximately 2,500 employees worldwide. Stream includes a voluntary redundancy programme, which by the end of 2017 has been accepted by 800 employees in Germany. In Wörth 280 employees have chosen to accept Stream, in Stuttgart 260 employees, in Mannheim 130 employees, in Gaggenau 140 employees and in Kassel 40 employees.
In May 2017, Daimler announced the loss of 2,000 jobs worldwide, but later ruled out all locations except Germany. In the meanwhile, Stream has been updated, with Daimler planning to cut 2,500 jobs worldwide. However, as of today the only known location is Germany.
The job reduction will become active starting January 2019, but employees can choose to accept Stream until the end of 2018. Further distribution of planned cuts has yet to be announced. However, Daimler is trying to cut jobs mainly by natural fluctuation such as early-retirement-programmes.
