Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Electric car manufacturer Tesla plans to double its service staff in Norway, hiring more than 300 new employees in 2018. The expansion is aimed at augmenting the service capacity for Tesla vehicles in Norway and was announced after the company received criticism for increased waiting times at several of its service locations. Tesla currently has 11 service centres in Norway and will expand with a new large service centre near Oslo scheduled to open by summer.
Tax exemptions and regulatory benefits for electric vehicles have made the Norwegian market one of the world's first mass markets for electric cars, with one in four new cars registered in 2017 being fully electric. Including hybrid electric vehicles, more than half of new cars registered were electrified. Tesla was the 7th most sold brand in Norway in 2017, with 8,460 new cars registered. This development has put pressure on Tesla's service capacity, which is expected to increase further as Tesla's more moderately priced Model 3 is delivered to Norwegian customers from late 2018 or early 2019.
