European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Dutch gas turbine generator manufacturer Brush HMA in Ridderkerk (west Netherlands) will be largely shut down by its British investor Melrose, leading to 166 job cuts in the manufacturing department. Only a small technical department and after-sales team is expected to be left at the site, providing continuing employment for the remaining 41 employees.
The reasons stated for the job reductions are the drop in demand for the type of gas turbine generators manufactured in Ridderkerk and the desire to move manufacturing activities to Plzen, Czech Republic. The unions have responded with anger, especially considering the €8.5 billion Melrose is willing to invest in a hostile takeover of the British industrial conglomerate GKN. The largest Dutch union FNV expects the redundancies to take place before the end of 2018 and has stated that they are considering organising protest actions against the closing of the manufacturing plant. Brush HMA in its turn has promised to offer a decent redundancy package.
As of February 2018, Brush HMA employs 207 people in Ridderkerk.
