Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Italian public broadcasting company RAI is to reduce its headcount by at least 200 employees.
RAI currently employs about 11,000 employees and it is implementing a plan intended to reduce costs by proposing incentives to voluntary early retirement.
The company expects that 400 to 1,200 employees shall accept the offer and leave the company in 2018. The intention is to replace half of the exits with young new hires. Therefore the net job loss should range between 200 and 600.
Incentives to dismissals target both blue-collar and white-collar workers, including middle managers and orchestra directors.
