Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Dutch telecommunications company Altice announced that it will open a contact centre in Covilhã, the municipality welcomes the news since there are growing concern about depopulation and lack of job opportunities in the area. The new centre will create 200 new jobs. Randstad, a human resources company, will be responsible for the creation of the centre. This is the thirteenth contact centre that Altice opens in Portugal, in partnership with Randstad.
In the last two and a half years more than 1,500 jobs were created in Portugal by Altice. The ERM recorded two job creation announcements in 2016 (110 jobs and 180 jobs).
