Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The American producer of automotive emissions, fuel economy and after-market solutions, Delphi Automotive, has announced the collective dismissal of 698 people at its plant in Moldova Noua (Caras-Severin County). The redundancies will be implemented by 31 March 2018 and are reportedly due to being unable to attract a sufficiently large workforce to support the company's projects.
Delphi has two plants in Sanicolau Mare (Timis County), Ineu (Arad County) and a engineering research centre in Arad (Arad County).
Moldova Noua plant was opened in 2013.
The unions did not react to the announcement as the company has no collective agreement in force.
Globally, the company has a workforce of approximately 16,000.
