Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Manufacturing firm Doncasters Precision Castings has announced that it is to cut 225 jobs. The Droitwich-based firm, which manufactures nickel-cobalt turbine blades, has said that the job losses are necessary in order to cut costs, and has stressed that there are no plans to cease operations in the town. The statutory 45 day consultation process is reported to be underway, using the company's pre-existing joint consultative committee as the forum for discussions. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that a key aim of the consultation was to reduce the need for compulsory redundancies.
