Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mitec Automotive, manufacturer of parts for motor engines and vehicles based in Eisenach, announced it will cut 160 jobs (120 permanent employees and 40 temporary employees) due to internal restructuring. According to Mitec, the cuts are a response to changes in market demand. Job reductions will be implemented across Mitec's sites in Germany, however, a detailed plan is not yet made public. In the meanwhile, management and employee representatives have agreed a socially acceptable plan, which includes a voluntary programme that aims to find Mitec Automotive employees new jobs.
Mitec Automotive employs approximately 1,000 people, mostly in Eisenach but also in China and the US.
