Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German car manufacturer Opel has announced that it will cut up to 190 jobs at its factory in Gliwice through a voluntary departure programme. Employees will be able to join the programme in January 2018. Redundant workers will receive severance pay according to their seniority. The source reports that the company plans to liquidate the third shift which it implemented in 2015 and which created 300 new jobs at the time; and restore a two shifts system in the factory. The changes will be implemented at the beginning of February 2018.
Opel belongs to US-American General Motors and employs around 34,300 people worldwide. General Motors has been operating in Poland since 1994. The plant in Gliwice was opened in 1998.
