Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Engineering company Doosan Babcock has announced that it is to cut 350 jobs from its workforce in Scotland. The losses will come from the sites at Grangemouth in East Stirlingshire and Levenseat in Lanarkshire, which are responsible for waste management. The jobs are being cut due to completion of projects at the sites and redundancy notices have been issued. The GMB union has described the news as a "hammer blow" and the Economy Secretary has said that the announcement is 'extremely disappointing'.
