Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The roadside breakdown service, AA, has announced plans to cut 100 jobs. The company also confirmed that it will close its training centre near Melton Mowbray, which currently employs 15 people. The proposed job cuts are understood to be mainly administrative and office function roles, with approximately half the losses coming from the business's Basingstoke HQ.
The GMB union has accused the company of making these cuts in preparation for franchising the business, though the AA has denied that there are any such plans to franchise. The statutory period of consultation on the job losses will end on 24 February 2018.
