Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Energy company Scottish Power has announced plans to cut 200 jobs across its workforce. Currently the headcount stands at around 6,500 employees, approximately half being in Scotland. The decision to cut jobs reflects a drive for efficiency across the company. A spokesperson for the business confirmed that it envisages that the job cuts will be achieved via a voluntary redundancy scheme and that if numerous workers express an interest in the scheme, then decisions will be taken according to operational needs. The cuts will take place throughout 2018.
