Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lely Industries, manufacturer of agricultural machines such as milk robots, has announced it will cut at least 100 jobs at its headquarters in Maassluis, Zuid-Holland (West Netherlands). The reduction follows the sale of part of Lely's organisation, Forage, to the US based ACCO. The 95 workers employed within forage will remain in their positions for the first year of business, officially employed with ACCO instead of Lely Industries. It is unclear whether those workers will be able to rejoin Lely after termination of the initial 12-month period.
Lely Industries is an international specialist in agricultural machinery and employs approximately 2,000 people.
